Benim Varoş Hikâyem (My Suburban Stories) is an exclusive film documenting the underground life in the neighborhood of Ceyhan, Adana, in southern Turkey. Director Yunus Ozan Korkut, once a local, captures the streets otherwise inaccessible to ordinary citizens, in their immediate intimacy. His neighbors, friends and relatives present the audience an exquisite pallet of extraordinary characters while they tell the breath taking and heart breaking stories of their neighborhood. These stories hint at the vital dangers of dominant masculinities, an immense experience of poverty, twisting routes to social status and the joys of belonging to the neighborhood. Hence, "My Suburban Stories", tells simultaneously stories of loyality to a place and of dreams to fllee from it.
Yunus Ozan Korkut (1988, Turkey) was born in Adana and lives currently in Ankara. He is the director of six short films including award winner "Mualla" (2015). "My Suburban Stories" is his first feature length documentary.
